After School Clubs
The Academy offers After school activities for all pupils up to Key stage 4. Primary clubs take place on Tuesday afternoon and Secondary clubs on Tuesday and Wednesday. This term the Secondary pupils have had the opportunity to take part in a variety of clubs:
Cooking club. The emphasis is on having fun whilst at the same time enhancing independence skills. The club follow the ‘Let’s get cooking’ programme which focuses on healthy eating recipes. The pupils are currently helping to organise a fundraising event by preparing a healthy eating buffet for staff to attend and all proceeds will go to the McMillan Cancer Support charity.
Fencing Club. The Academy hires a specialist coach who is a member of the British Academy of fencing. The sessions are suitable for all abilities as boys and girls of different age groups can compete against each other. The activity aims to improve motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination. It is proving to be a very popular club and the sessions are full to capacity.
Film club. The pupils gain valuable communication and social interaction skills, each week they watch a different film.
Grimsby Town Sports and Education Trust: This year the Academy has been fortunate to have been selected by GTFC to receive funding from Children in Need. The sessions are run by coaches from GTFC and the activities will vary each term enabling all the pupils to have the opportunity to participate in different sports. This term they have introduced Tag Rugby.
The pupils that take part in the Primary clubs enjoy activities to meet the specific needs of each pupil whilst engaging with their peers by taking part in group activities. The sessions are planned to fit in with celebrations of different cultures.
Primary and Secondary pupils have engaged in a range activities to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Cooking club enjoyed tasting Chinese food at a small buffet and learnt how to use chopsticks. Primary pupils made a Chinese dragon and performed a Chinese dragon dance.
