Reading

“We believe that every child should be given the opportunities and tools to develop into an enthusiastic and confident reader and our vision is to instil and encourage a genuine love of reading for all of our pupils!” 

We have adapted our reading journey to include bespoke 'pre-phonics' support alongside a synthetic phonics approach – this is then developed further through the reading mastery approach, where we aim to develop a deeper understanding of rich and high quality texts for those pupils who are able to access reading at this level. 

As the children’s proficiency in reading develops, our emphasis changes from ‘learning to read’ to ‘reading to learn.’

What our pupils think about reading – 

"I think reading is a great for children to use their imaginations. When books from our class library are interesting, they draw you in and you don’t want to stop reading."  

"I love listening to my teacher read a story. We get to join in with some words and do actions." 

Writing

At Cambridge Park Academy, we understand the importance of developing communication as a route into writing for many of our pupils. Where possible, we want pupils to become confident story tellers and writers of a range of texts.

We believe that it is important for our pupils to acquire a wide vocabulary and a sound understanding of punctuation and grammar. We firmly believe that written communication is a vital life skill for many of our pupils.
