Team Teach

Team-Teach is a whole setting holistic training approach to behaviour support and interventions aimed at professional settings which may face challenging behaviors.

Team-Teach aims to provide an accredited training framework designed to reduce restraint and risk, through working together to help safeguard people and services.

The course is accredited by UKSkills and The Institute of Conflict Management.  Courses are structured to accommodate a variety of settings and their individual needs.

Training is carried out at the setting or at Cambridge Park Academy.

Tailored training solutions which drive positive outcomes

Our training solutions are tailored to the needs of both individuals and organisations.

Our trainers consider the settings in which attendees work, the nature of care they provide and the common problems they encounter to deliver practical solutions that lead to real change. All settings receive a Pre-Visit meeting to conduct a needs analysis. This will highlight areas of development and support trainers in tailoring the training.

All our training is built on a foundation of respect, both for the responsibility of those we instruct and for the dignity of the children and adults who are the real beneficiaries of our training.

We aim to foster cultures of support, helping people recognise the needs of those they work with, offer help where necessary, and be able to make use of support when offered.

Strategies that lower risk and minimise intrusive physical intervention

The positive behaviour management strategies that Team Teach develops and promotes emphasise team building, personal safety, communication, and verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques for dealing with challenging behaviour which reduce the need for physical intervention.

As a last resort, we also teach positive handling techniques to resolve conflicts in ways that are safe, and which provide opportunities for repair and reflection for everyone involved.

We enable services to develop acceptable and authorised responses to disruptive, disturbing, angry and aggressive behaviours in a manner that maintains positive relationships and provides safety for all, helping reduce the number of serious incidents involving physical controls, and raising the awareness of the importance of recording, reporting, monitoring and evaluating all incidents involving positive handling.

We see positive handling as just one part of a whole-setting approach to behaviour management. As such, our framework is entirely compatible with Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) approaches for people with learning disabilities.

Lead Trainers

Iain

I have had the pleasure of working at Cambridge Park Academy for over 14 years. I have experienced an amazing journey, building relationships with colleagues, young people and numerous educational and care settings within the community. I have worked across the academy supporting individuals of all ages and abilities. For over 10 years as a qualified trainer,  I have been committed to implementing the Team Teach ethos by sharing the importance of transforming relationships, giving staff the tools to manage distressed behaviours and conflicts safely and respectfully. At the heart of my approach are the young people and how we, together, can develop supportive, holistic strategies to create an inclusive environment. As an Advanced Team Teach practitioner, I have had the privilege of supporting settings with the enhancement of policies and procedures, ultimately reducing the need for physical interventions. My supportive role does not end following training, I am on hand as and when needed in the academy for advice and support.

Sam

I was employed at The Cambridge Park Academy as a Primary trained NQT in June 2012. During my time at the Academy, I have supported individuals of all ages, abilities and need. In July 2014 I qualified as an Intermediate Team Teach Tutor. I began my Team Teach journey by supporting the delivery of Team Teach courses within our Academy.  Once I felt confident, I began to lead training in other schools across the area. In February 2020, I qualified as an Advanced Team Teach Tutor. As a Team Teach Tutor I appreciate the opportunity to visit different schools, provide quality, accredited training for staff and meet new people. I do believe in the key values of Team teach; everything we do should be in the young person's best interests, we are here to help them feel safe and our ultimate purpose should be to help our students to reach their potential. I am particularly confident in supporting students who present with challenging behaviour. The key to being successful with this support is by developing positive relationships, which are built on trust.
