The Cambridge Park Academy’s Laurus unit is a resource based provision accessible to the mainstream school population and is based at the Academy’s Cromwell Road Campus. The Laurus offers education for secondary aged learners. The Laurus is a provision commissioned by North East Lincolnshire Authority.
At the Laurus we aim to provide an individualised and tailored curriculum to meet the needs of pupils who may have Autistic Spectrum Condition, Asperger Syndrome or Higher Functioning Autism.
The Laurus unit is located at the Academy's Cromwell Road Campus and the provision is a self contained unit occupying the first floor of 419 Cromwell Road. The unit has been recently redeveloped specifically for the needs of this group of learners. The Laurus unit provides education for a maximum of 9 learners.
Learners placed at the Laurus have the opportunity to follow the full range of National Curriculum subjects delivered by subject specialists at Key Stage 3 and options to work towards GCSE qualifications or equivalent at Key Stage 4. The curriculum takes into account each learner's individual profile and support learners to fill the gaps caused due to disengagement with learning or breakdown of placement, this in turn enables academic success. The curriculum also takes into account learners' skills and interests and supports them to develop independent thinking and organisational skills through investigation and self study.
In addition to academic studies learners will have opportunities to develop essential life skills preparation through a personalised Skills for Life programme.
Learners placed at the Laurus will have opportunity, where appropriate, to rejoin peers in mainstream education for individual subject or part timetables. This will take place through consultation with the learner and his/her parents or carers. This is not compulsory but seen as a possible transition if suitable.
