Green Class Sparkling Start

Green Class went on a trip to visit some of the different countries in Africa. First we had to collect our passports and board a GreenAir plane. We enjoyed some African snacks on our flight too.

When we landed in The Gambia, we had to have our passports stamped before going to the arrival lounge for a story about African animals.

We learned about Ghana and the traditional jewellery that that is worn there. We even had a go at making our own.

Next we experienced camping up Mount Kilimanjaro followed by some binocular DIY and went on a safari to find some african animals

Finally, we went back to Gambia to learn about the beautiful materials used for their traditional clothing. We even got to try some on.

Green Class

Green class have been building Anderson Shelters as part of our history lesson. The children really enjoyed collecting leaves, grass, sticks and other shrubbery on the field to add to their Anderson shelters. We had a class discussion about camouflaging the shelters. We know that the shelters had to look like a garden or grass land so that they were not seen by the pilots during the air raids. We also enjoyed a World War 2 workshop where we saw an evacuees suitcase and what they took with them as well as trying on helmets and a gas mask.

We learn phonics in small groups following the Read Write Inc scheme and are using numicon to support our learning in maths.
