Cambridge Park Academy

E-Safety

Online safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Cambridge Park Academy . We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any online safety incidents are recorded and managed. Online safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.

We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the Online Safety message is consistent. It is important that parents speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online.

Just as we want to keep our children safe in the ‘real’ offline world, we want to do the same in the virtual online world. It is important that we understand enough about the Internet to keep our children safe from harm but it is equally important that we equip our children with the skills they need to keep themselves safe so they can experience the Internet positively and responsibly.

Keep Safe on the Internet

  • Do not give out any personal details – no matter how tempting!
  • If in doubt about don't!
  • Do not agree to meet someone you have ‘met online’ without checking with your parents or carers.
  • Never send a photo of yourself without checking with your parents or carers.
  • Do not use chatrooms at school and if you use them at home always stay in the public areas.
  • If someone says something to you that you do not like tell you parents or teachers!
  • Do not add a person to your friends list on any social network websites unless you know them.
  • Remember that other people can read anything you post on social network websites!

Online Safety

What are the Issues?

The internet – on the whole is an inspiring and positive place.

The internet is an amazing resource which enables children and young people to connect, communicate and be creative in a number of different ways, on a range of devices.

However, the internet is always changing, and being able to keep up to date with your children’s use of technology can be a challenge.

You may sometimes feel that your children have better technical skills than you do, however children and young people still need advice and protection when it comes to managing their lives online.

Issues that your child may encounter on the internet will vary depending on their age and online activities.

What to do if you have a concern about a child.

If you have a concern about a child or young person, you can contact:

  • Mr Gardiner (Designated Safeguarding Lead)
  • Mrs Weller (Deputy Lead)
  • Mrs Whitney-Smith (CRC Safeguarding Lead)
  • Miss Lockyer (Deputy Lead)

To get in contact with any of the members of staff above, please call the school at 01472 230110.

Or you can:

  • Contact the Families First Access Point (FFAP) on 01472 326292
  • Contact the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.

CEOP - Child Exploitation and Online Protection

CEOP is a law enforcement agency and is there to help keep children and young people safe from sexual abuse and grooming online. They help thousands of children and young people every year who have been in a similar situation to you. CEOP are unable to respond to reports about bullying, fake accounts or account hacking.

They are here to help and give you advice, and you can make a report directly to them if you are worried about online sexual abuse or something has happened online which has made you feel unsafe, scared or worried. This might be from someone you know in real life, or someone you have only ever met online.

Parental Controls

Children are gaining access to and owning their own devices from a ever younger age. Devices can be great for learning and development, however parents should be aware of the content available online and the chance of your child seeing something they shouldn’t when online.

Pre-installed parental controls are available for most devices, laptops and consoles and are part of the system when you buy them. You can often download e-safety apps and software to supplement these controls. But the most important thing is to set the controls on the device itself.
