The Foundations Curriculum fits with our staged approach (1-4) and the topic content is designed to give pupils a rich and meaningful starting point for learning by linking the areas of Understanding the World and Creative Arts and Design. Built around engaging themes, the curriculum introduces children to carefully chosen knowledge that grows progressively at a developmental level, ensuring that learning is both accessible and challenging. Through hands-on experiences, imaginative exploration, and opportunities to express themselves creatively, pupils begin to make sense of the world around them while building the essential foundations for future subject-specific study. This approach nurtures curiosity, creativity, and early critical thinking, supporting children to develop both their knowledge and their confidence as learners.
Alongside this, Stage 4 provides a vital bridge between the Foundations Curriculum and more formal subject-specific learning in the functional curriculum. It allows pupils to consolidate their early knowledge and skills, while gradually introducing them to the structures and expectations of the next stage of learning. This ensures a smooth and supportive transition into a more formal curriculum, enabling pupils to thrive as they progress.
